The Edge browser could have features that will make it almost useless on Windows in a particular situation. One wonders what Microsoft has behind its head.
Explorer, clearly wants to make its place alongside the undisputed Chrome king of Google and its vassals Firefox, Opera or Safari. Microsoft's program is moreover on the 3rd place of the in terms of global market share: 5.21% in April 2024 according to Statcounter figures. Being installed by default on Windows 11 PCs necessarily helps, but let's not renege on the efforts made.
In most cases, Edge's features are handy. We think, for example, of the one that uses artificial intelligence to help you write better. Of course, others have a more debatable use, such as the ability to use two search engines at the same time, while some are downright suspicious and eventually disappear. The novelty spotted by Windows Lastest is clearly part of this last category, and we can only hope that it too will soon be a bad memory.
THE EDGE BROWSER WILL NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE AS BEFORE IF YOU ARE IN THIS SITUATION
In the latest version of Edge, 3 features not yet deployed have explicit names: msEdgeActivatedStateCheckAndUpdate, msEdgeNonActivatedOSTrigger and msEdgeLockSettingsInNonActivatedOS. If we decode this jargon, they will block some parts of the browser settings if your copy of Windows is not enabled. For the moment, only the page to indicate the site that should open when Edge is started is not accessible, but Microsoft could add others.
We understand the will of the firm to force the hand so that you activate Windows, but we do not see what the parameters of Edge do in there. Nothing prevents you from downloading another browser, especially since in Europe, you can uninstall the Microsoft one like any other program. Insofar as it is not yet a globally enabled update, there is still the possibility that Microsoft will realize the uselessness of the thing and delete the mentioned lines.

The Chinese social network TikTok is facing a possible ban from the United States, but it intends to avoid it at all costs and is appealing to the American justice system to decide.
Between the Chinese social network TikTok and the United States, it's a big story of dislike. Not with the population of the country, far from it: the application of vertical videos is used by about half of Americans. Rather, it is with the government that it gets stuck. It all started when Donald Trump, then president, says that the platform owned by the Chinese company ByteDance is a danger to the personal data of citizens who use it. It is by extension a threat to national security.
Tension rises and some states take the lead by TikTok. Then it is a bill that is put on the table. Adopted at the beginning of 2024, it is very clear: TikTok has a few months to stop being attached to ByteDance, otherwise the application will be banned from the territory. This is no more or less an injunction to sell the service to an American company. But is this legal? Not according to some rights holders and even less for TikTok which is suing the United States.
TIKTOK BRINGS COMPLAINT AGAINST U.S. GOVERNMENT TO AVOID COUNTRY BANNING
In a 67-page document addressed to the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Chinese social network hammers that the law passed recently against it is contrary to the 1st Amendment of the U.S. constitution. It is this document that guarantees freedom of expression. "For the first time in history, Congress passed legislation that submits a unique and named expression platform to a permanent nationwide ban and prohibits every American from participating in a single online community of more than one billion people worldwide."
Forcing the sale of the app "is not feasible commercially, technologically or legally," ByteDance summarizes. The company also explains that under its equal rights before the law, other similar platforms should be banned from the U.S. in the same capacity as it. It is waiting for the court to declare the recent law anticonstitutionnelle so that it can continue to exist in the country.

With each new generation of Pixel, Google aims to bring its high-end smartphone experiences at more affordable prices with its A-Series devices, so the two are starting to look a lot alike. We detail the differences between the Pixel 8a and 8.
The Pixel 8a announced yesterday seems to continue this strategy, embarking on many of the Pixel 8's flagship features while maintaining a reduced selling price of 549 euros, 250 euros less than its high-end counterpart.
But how far is the Pixel 8a taking a step back from the standard Pixel 8? After going through the specs, it's clear that this affordable new smartphone shares many more similarities to the high-end model than you might think.
VERY SIMILAR SCREENS
Let's start with the screens. The Pixel 8a is equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. These are essentially the same specifications as the 6.2-inch screen that adorns the Pixel 8, including the maximum HDR brightness of 2000 nits.
The Pixel 8's screen will still be more pleasant to look at, as the edges are much thinner. Despite its larger screen, the Pixel 8 is slightly smaller and lighter, with dimensions of 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm and 187 grams, compared to 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9 mm and 188 grams for the Pixel 8a. The Pixel 8a's slab is also protected by Gorilla Glass 3, which is much less impressive than the Pixel 8's Gorilla Glass Victus.
IDENTICAL CHICKENS ON THE
Under the hood, both phones work with Google's latest Tensor G3 processor, backed by the same 8GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage options that are up to 256GB fast. However, it is recalled that with the previous generation, Google had not used the exact same Tensor G2 chip on its Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a, the latter using a slightly less advanced burning process. It remains to be seen whether Google has done it again with this generation, and whether there are really differences in performance between the two devices on different benchmarks.
The good news is that both smartphones benefit from 7 years of updates, and the same AI features. So the software experience should be almost identical on both models.
THE PIXEL 8 THE WIN IN PHOTO
On the photo side, the Pixel 8 clearly has the advantage. It has two cameras on the back that are more powerful than those of the Pixel 8a. We find a large 50 MP main sensor and a 12 MP ultra wide-angle sensor, versus a smaller 64 MP main sensor on the Pixel 8a, accompanied by a secondary 13 MP sensor.
For the selfie part, the Pixel 8 adopts a 10.5 MP sensor with individual pixels slightly larger than those of the Pixel 8a's front 13 MP camera, so they could also allow for...
